Next Level Gaming's Official GameTime Entertainment dvG (Digital Video Guide) Video Game Review

Rainbow Six 3: Mike gets to review the first ever DVD strategy guide.

This will be indeed the shortest review I've ever written. A new company called GameTime Entertainment has begun creating the next generation of strategy guides. They are aptly named dvG's or Digital Video Guide's. They are on DVD, which allows you to see more about the game you're trying to get help on than you can get in a book. And, in case anyone was wondering, this is all done with the blessing of the masters of strategy guides themselves; Prima Guides. They gave GameTime the rights to do their first dvG of UbiSoft's already hot selling Rainbow Six 3.

Now what makes the dvG special is what it does for you. For Rainbow Six, the first one, the guide offers you full video walkthroughs for each level in the single player campaign. And not just a straight walkthrough, but complete with voice narration and assistance with picking the perfect weapon for the specific level you want to look at. The game is played right in front of you by experts and of course without dying. The walkthoughs are 100% complete and if you follow them you will beat the level with no problem. It's very cool.

Also on the DVD are game basics, where you will be shown and told the premise of Rainbow Six, and what the various gameplay areas are. And finally, you can check out game trailers of other UbiSoft games. And since it's a DVD, you can play it right on your Xbox if you have the DVD playback kit. If you don't, simply pop it into a regular DVD player. I like this because I can switch back and forth between the game and the walkthrough. And the menus on the dvG are easy to navigate, so you will spend more time working on beating the game than you will fumbling through the guide.

I put 100 on the score only because you really can't score a strategy guide like you do a game, so don't pay too much attention to it. The Rainbow Six 3 dvG is great, and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to get help in the single player mode. It does the job better than a book could, because you see someone else actually going through the level. This is the future of strategy guides. And as more come out, we'll let you know if they are as good as this one. As time goes on I'm sure we'll see new additions and features. But this is great!

BTW you can pick this up at your local Best Buy, GameStop, or Blockbuster Video.
